Tulips are among the most popular of all garden
flowers. Tulip flowers occur in a wide range of colors except true blue-from
purest white through all shades of yellow and red to brown and deepest purple
to almost black. Tulip
plants range in size from 4 to 24 inches in
height. Tulips are grouped according to whether they
flower early, mid-season or
late. All tulips have a perianth composed of six petals and six sepals. Cultivation of the tulip began in Persia, probably in the
10th century.
